In the course of my research, I have discovered that the word “pony” is actually a universal word, an animal of all peoples.
Pony in Danish: pony
In Estonian: poni
In French: poney
In Hungarian: Poní(ló)
In German: das Pony
In Portugese: pónei
In Norwegian: ponni
In Lithuanian: ponis
In Serbo-Croatian: poni
In Russian: пони
In Dutch: pony
In Swedish: ponny
In Afrikaans: ponie
In Czech: poník
In Finnish: poni
In Italian: pony
In Vietnamese: ngựa nhỏ pony
In Spanish: poni
Only the Poles call it kucyk and the Icelanders, because they must always be different, call it smáhestur, which does not so much conjure a pony but a devil-imp that lives inside the earth. Maybe they have just never seen a pony before. Only ice ponies.
